Paris – Rafael Nadal, the retired 4-time champion, will pay homage to the French Open on May 27 at the inaugural day of the tournament.
French Open Director Amelli Mursho said on Thursday, “Rafa has left its mark in the history of French Open in many ways, which is why a tribute will be held in his honor.” “We want the tribute to be special, exceptional. We want to surprise it for everyone.”
The 22 -time Grand Slam champion Nadal, who retired in November, is already raising an statue on Clay Court Grand Slam lane. He will also star in an exhibition at the Tournament Museum and lend his voice to the official French Open trailer.
“We wanted to pay homage last year to be transparent, but he then rejected it,” said Murmo. “He wasn’t sure it was his last Rolend Garros. Now he has retired, he is happy to have it.”
Nadal holds the record for the most French Open with 5 people. His last presence in the tournament was in 2021 when he lost to Alexander Javerev in the first round.
“Rafael Nadal and Rolend Garros are inseparable. We have a strong history together,” said Gils Morston, president of the French Tennis Federation. “Amli and I went to see him very long ago because we wanted to do something important for him. From last year we had a bit of disappointment.”
Organizers are also planning to achieve success by setting up a fan zone with the huge screen showing the success of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Located in the Place de La Concord in Central Paris, the venue will be free and open to 5000 fans.
“We have seen an incredible environment in Paris last summer. We plan to surfing about this success,” said Mursmo.
