Washington – On Tuesday, Senate Sen. David Perdo confirmed as China’s ambassador to China, just as the United States and China were stuck in a tariff showdown that threatened to define diplomatic relations between the two largest economies in the world.
A Republican, who served as a US senator in Georgia, confirmed 67-29-29 with some democratic support. In this month’s confirmation hearing, former business executive called US relations with China a “diplomatic challenge” of the 21st century.
“Our attitude towards China should be short, neutral and tactical,” said Peridu.
President Donald Trump, who chosen Peridu in December, raised 5% tariffs on Chinese products this month, and Beijing retaliated by charging 120% of the tariffs in the United States, there is no sign for climbing any immediate climb.
Although the Trump administration has bet that high tariffs will not be sustainable for the Chinese economy and will bring Beijing to the negotiating table, promising Chinese leadership to “fight in the end”. China is re -coordinating domestic policies to expand the domestic market and reduce dependence on the United States
Zhao Chenasin, Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission of China, said, “No matter how the worldwide situation changes, we will anchor our development goals, maintain our strategic focus and concentrate on our own work.”
Peridu will reach a China that challenges the growing US global domination. Chinese forces have become the nearest-pea competitor in the Taiwan Straight as well as in the Southern China Sea, in cases such as Ser Ser and artificial intelligence and humanoid robots.
The Trump administration is about to become more stringent in the competition with Beijing to prevent any military conflict, though there is mutual mistrust, especially in flashpoints like the future of Taiwan’s self-administrative island.
Yun San San, director of the China program at Washington -based Think Tanks Sixtson Center, said that the confirmation of Peridu is timely because the “credible issues of communication” are essential to stabilize the relations between the two countries between the customs war.
The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to comment on Peri’s confirmation.
Jim Rich, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, R-Idaho before the vote, said that Periy’s nomination was “one of the important appointments that will be across the floor.”
Pardu lost his Senate seat to Democrat Zone Osaf four years ago and failed to run the initials of the Republican Georgia Governor Brian Camp. Parrudu pressured Trump’s wrong claim in the 2021 elections during the failed bid for the governor.
Before starting a political career, Peridu made a string of top executives, including Sara Li, Rebok and Dollar General.
As a Business Executive, Peridu lives in Hong Kong and draws his global outlook. He was criticized for the outsourced job of China, but Trump’s “America First” strategy took during its confirmation hearing, “Our own national and economic protection remains non -objectionable.”
At the hearing, Peridu also said that Washington and Beijing should “look for places where our interests are lined up to build a better and safe work relationship.”
