A group of students accused of being involved in an apparent hazing scheme on the coast of New York turned themselves after giving them 48 hours to do so or otherwise faced allegations of abduction for the incident, which authorities say that the Westhill High School Boys Lacrosis’ team is a target of younger members.
Onndaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said eleven students who attended the event on Wednesday were alleged to have participated in the event. The District Attorney had earlier told CBS News that the deadline for criminals’ turning themselves was “close to business on Thursday”.
“This is a criminal activity, and it is hagging on the steroids,” FitSpatrick said at a press conference on Tuesday, it mentions “it may result in such tragedy.”
An attorney representing 4 students said in a statement to CBS News on Wednesday night that “youths deeply regret their involvement in the beginning of a misleading attempt. They recognize that their actions were inappropriate, and do not reduce the fears and crisis experienced by other students.”
Fitzpatrick said his office and county sheriff department was working together to prosecute the case, after receiving a call from the Sheriff High School Resource Officer, reporting that a new member of the boys’ lacrosism team was thrown behind a team’s car. This phenomenon seemed to be an example of hazing or if it did not, then somehow the ultimate animal, Fitspatrick.
The old Lacros players were alleged to have set up their plots by arranging the evening with five small members of the Westhill team, which was thought to have been included in watching a laprosis game and lifting food from McDonalds. The District Attorney said a veteran player was driving the younger ones and pretending to be lost in an isolated part of the county, where a group of allied masks and black dress came up in imitation of the abduction with at least one gun and a knife.
FitSpatrick says a pillow whose hands were tied to his head, his hands were tied, and he was thrown into the vehicle, FitSpatrick said.
“I can imagine that a deputy is coming to a scene, a baby has been abducted at a gun point with a hood on his head that all the black and masked dressed multiple people were abducted at the point of the gun,” he said. “If that person opens the fire, you know that it will be out of the field of possibilities? I think the opposite will be true.”
No injuries related to the incident were reported and the criminals returned the student to his house at the end of the night, said Fitzpatrick. Quoting a video he said that the authorities believed that 11 people, who were present in the boys’ lacrosy squad, had carried out the project and urged them to come forward to face the allegations of abduction and to avoid judging as adults. The identity or the right age of the people involved has not been revealed.
Fitspatrick said, “I saw the video tape of what happened to this young man.” I don’t know how long this young man would be affected by what happened to him. In fact, I think it is understandable that in this day and ages, one may think that they can move away with something like this. ”
After 5 people turned themselves, Fitzpatrick said he would not release the video at the moment.
No charges were filed till Tuesday. The District Attorney has earlier said that those who like to turn themselves will probably avoid criminal records and instead face the case in the family court. A representative from the school district told CBS News in a statement that it was cooperating in investigating the law.
“We have continued their fully cooperation with the District Attorney’s statement and the ongoing investigation,” Westhill Central School District District Education Board President Lisa O’Reily told CBS News. “At this point, there is no additional information to share the district. We are committed to the values of the students’ protection, dignity and accountability during the investigation.
