Tokyo – Shout “Banajai!” Or “Live Long,” thousands of people traveled to Tokyo on Thursday when Japan started celebrating May Day in the Traditional Drake Drum.
This holiday, also known as International Labor Day or Labor Day, identifies the struggle and achievement and labor movement of the workers. Thousands of people are expected to attend rallies and processions in the US, including Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Philadelphia.
“In order to be able to live with our children’s hopes, workers’ rights must be recognized,” Junko Quramoci, a member of the mothers who traveled to the Japanese capital, said.
US organizers say their message this year is focusing on the fought against President Donald Trump’s immigrants, federal activists and diversity initiatives.
Even in Japan, some said that Trump’s principles were hanging on the day like a shadow. A doll feature in a truck in Tokyo March that looks like Trump.
Japan’s Union Construction Worker Tadashi Ito said he was concerned about the possibility of increasing the prices of imported raw materials in the months ahead.
“Everyone is fighting on work and so the agreements are where the wages go cheaply,” he said.
“We think peace comes first. And we hope Trump will eliminate conflicts and discrimination,” ito added.
In Indonesia, President Prabo welcomed thousands of workers who encouraged him to the National Memorial Park in Jakarta.
“The government that I have led will work as hard as possible to eliminate poverty from Indonesia,” Subanto told the crowd.
Iqbal, president of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions, said that around 200,000 Indonesian workers were expected to participate in May Day across the largest economy in Southeast Asia.
Iqbal says they are demanding outsourcing rules, wages and protection of domestic workers and immigrant workers abroad.
In Taiwan, about 2,5 union members, from fisheries to telecommunications, represented various sectors, traveled to the capital, carried the flag and demanded better condition.
In Japan, the participants’ demands were wide and it included higher wages, gender equality, healthcare, reduction of military spending for earthquake victims and disaster relief. They also demanded a ceasefire in Gaza and the attack on Ukraine in Russia.
“Workers are kicking it! Workers in the world! May Day!” They shouted, “Banajai!” The word paused to every wonder with the word!
Los Angeles is expected to host one of the world’s largest May day events this year, and a banner of the day there has been summarized: “A struggle, a struggle – workers kick it!”
“We are fighting for billionaire and politicians who are trying to divide us with fear and falsehood.
