A new way of prostate cancer screening may emerge as an alternative to PSA exam, which was the first line option for a long time.
Using machine learning, a form of artificial intelligence, Swedish researchers analyzed a sample of more than 2,000 male urine in a control group as well as prostate cancer.
They decided that simple, non-aggressive urine test was able to detect prostate cancer biometers with high levels of accuracy-and could determine the grade of the disease.
The results were published in the Journal of Cancer Research.

“The PSA based on this method exceeds current blood tests, but at the same time keeps the benefits of being aggressive, painful and relatively cheaper.”
According to the National Cancer Institute, the researchers were surprised by the “differentity of the tumors” that refers to “the difference between the same type of tumors in different patients, the difference between the cancer cells in a single tumor or the difference between a primary (original) tumor and a secondary tumor.”

“One of the main challenges of the study was to overcome it and detect specific biometers for prostate cancer, but it was also revealed in all types of patients,” said Smelic.
Virginia’s UVA Health Radiation oncologist and Arter’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Timothy Showalter was not involved in the study but commented on the search.

He told Fox News Digital, “This study highlights the power of the machine learning applied to patients in the detection of breakthroughs that can help diagnose cancer if our treatments are most effective,” he told Fox News Digital.
“Prostate cancer screening has not seen any converter progress in decades and the current approaches still depend on PSA blood tests, which are known to be low in clinically significant cancer.”
Know what about PSA
The existing PSA test works by observing the layers of prostate-specific antigen in the blood.
It can be used to screenery for prostate cancer or to monitor the progress of the disease, but some risks and limitations have been noticed.

Although PSA has the advantage of simplicity, speedy and reasonable expenditure, more tests like MRI and biopsy are often needed to determine the money behind an unusual search, the doctor mentioned.

False positiveness is also common in PSA exams, about 6% to 7% of cases occur.
“About 25% of men with biopsy are reported to have prostate cancer due to the elevated PSA level,” NIH said.
Restrictions and future studies
There were some limitations in the study, mainly the low number of samples.
“The urinary prostate cancer predicted model was performed on a small data set and it was basically an analysis of European men, both of which could limit its application to other high-risky prostate cancer population,” Abramovits mentioned.

Due to the special tools needed to perform the analysis, the test may also come up with significant expenditure, he added.
Researchers have acknowledged the need for greater study to verify the search and to include other cancers possible.
