On Monday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegsath said in a memo called Pentagon’s veteran leadership that he ordered the four-star general and admiral to reduce a minimum of 20% across the military.
He also ordered at least 20% of the National Guard General Officer and all flags and general officers to cut 10%. In the one -page memory posted on the Defense Department’s website, Hegsheth said that “in order to run innovation and operational excretion, the military must” be uninterrupted by unnecessary bureaucratic layers that prevent their growth and effectiveness “and reduce the flag to reduce the stream of additions and flags.
In a video on Hegast X, the memo announced, “We are going to transfer resources to our wars from the swollen headquarters elements.”
He did not give a timeline for the cuts but said that they would be run “fast”.
According to the Defense Department data, there are currently 38 four-star generals or admirals up to March 31, 2025. CNN first reported the memo of Hegastath.
Hegsath has raised questions about the number of top military officers in the past.
“We won the Second World War with the seven four -star generals in the Town Hall of the Pentagon in February. We have 5 people today.” “All this contributes to the success of the war directly? Perhaps they do – I don’t know – but they are like reviewing it to make sure it is.”
