Oregon’s Sen Ron Widen has asked the Trump administration’s top officials to reconsider policies that are affecting travelers in the United States by quoting the upcoming sports events like the 2026 World Cup.
The top Democrat Widean of the Finance Committee on Friday wrote to the Secretary of State of Marco Rubio and Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noom to express concerns about international travelers and recent reports of other travel issues.
“It has turned the general travel into an unnecessarily deadly ordeal for tourists, business travelers, legal permanent residents and US citizens,” Widene wrote.
International travelers are growing alert about the administration’s immigration and border policies. Several countries have updated travel guidelines for planning their citizens about moving to the United States.
Travel forecasting agency Tourism Economics recently amended its annual view of the last month so that this year was predicted by a 9.4% decrease in international arrivals.
In February, a German visitor who was detained for 16 days after the Mexico Road trip tried to return to the United States with his American fiance. A backpacker in Britain, Becky Burke, was stopped on the US-Canada border and was held at a detention facility in the state of Washington for almost three weeks, according to his father.

“Before these events, your categories will feel a significant increase in the extraordinary athletes, assistance workers, government officials, journalists, business owners and visitors among the travelers who are seeking entrance to the United States,” Woman wrote. “If your rigid and unnecessary approaches to travelers continues, foreign-ethnic athletes who have spent their entire life training for this once-life opportunity may be unable to travel to the United States to participate in these games.”
