Former South Korean President Moon calls his bribery indictment ‘unjust’

Seoul, South Korea – Prosecutors have accused the former South Korean president Moon Jae-in bribe on Friday that he called politically inspired investigations.

One day after the prosecutors announced his allegations in the southern city of Jonzu, Moon’s remarks came that a budget airline gave his son-in-law a profitable no-show job during his president.

Meeting with Speaker of the National Parliament Win-Shik, Moon said that he thought that the prosecutors were “moving forward in the predetermined direction” and his case was “an example of how prosecution has become politics and how prosecutor power is being tortured.” Former liberal leader was visiting the National Assembly for an event on the seventh anniversary of his 2018 summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during a short period of involvement in rival Koreas.

South Korean leaders have been added to a long list of Moon who have faced criminal allegations or scandal after leaving the office at the end of their terms or after leaving the office. On June 7, South Korea will select the President of Conservative President Yun Suk Eol, who was recently removed from the office because of a bad idea of martial law enforcement in December.

Yun, who previously served as a prosecutor general under the Moon administration before the result of the high-profile with liberal leadership, is now facing criminal trial on the allegations of decree.

In the main opposition Democratic Party, Moon’s political allies portray the allegations as a political vendita, which was forced to insult the former liberal leader in the prosecution service before the election.

Prosecutors complained that Moon, who served as president since 2017-2022, received a total bribe of 217 million won ($ 151,000) from the budget career Thai Easter Jet founder Lee Sangik. It was alleged that the bribe was in the form of financial support for Moon’s son-in-law in 2018-2020.

Prosecutors say that the man, who divorced Moon’s daughter in 2021, rented Lee’s company in Thailand despite having no experience in the airline industry and performed the minimum duty from South Korea to work away from South Korea.

Prosecutors said they did not find evidence that Moon had directly arranged for Li’s political favor, but Lee probably worked on Moon’s promotion that his assistance would be repaid. Leki was later nominated as the head of Korea’s small and medium initiatives and the Startups Agency, and was nominated to be a candidate in Parliament by Moon’s party while he was in the Moon office.
