FSU students, parents describe fear, confusion during campus shooting: “I’m still shaking”

As a threat Active Shooter has sent Florida State University Campus, panic and confusion spread a lot out of the school grounds on Thursday afternoon – especially for students sheltered in place of students and parents desperate to reach them.

Ava Arado, a FSU student in the class, described a horrible scene that was quickly manifested around him when he was out of university warning.

Arenado told CBS News Miami, “One of my classmates received a warning on his phone and declared it the rest of the class.” “My teacher immediately started barricading the door … and then another student said that he would rather go home, so we all just ran into our car.”

Arenado said that he had made the second-second decision, believing that the threat was enough to make it out of his car and safely to return to his apartment. Even as he ran, the fear for the other is heavy.

“It didn’t just seem real,” he said. “I really just got scared [a classmate’s] Protection and mine too. “

He said that the student union had a friend to the union – the area where the police reacted at 12:00 pm – those who claimed to have heard the gun before the process of enforcement. But beyond that, most students were in the dark about what was actually happening.

“No one really saw or heard too much,” said Arenado. “Everyone is truly confused … especially on social media. Real and what not is really hard to understand what is not” “

The confusion was expanded in families from far away.

How did FSU students know about shooting

Vivian, the mother of the two FSU students, said that his daughter was the person who first called him about warning.

He told CBS News Miami, “I’m still trembling, though both my baby are okay.” “I was so nervous … I thought of my son immediately and asked my daughter to reach him to make sure he was okay.”

Both Vivian’s children were in their campus off apartments at that time-Siren and the harassment is quite close enough but enough to avoid direct danger. Nevertheless, he said uncertainty was overwhelming.

“We’re simply waiting for all the cleaning,” he said. “They have friends who are still hiding in the classroom.”

Vivian, like many parents, joined the online chat with other families trying to pick the truth from fiction. “Referring to photos and rumors of multiple shooters, he said,” There is a lot of misinformation here. “” So is not sure what to believe. “

FSU officials said law enforcement was actively clearing the rooms on Thursday afternoon and it was okay to open the door. Students and staff were urged to continue as shelter as the police work through the big campus.

Several people admitted to the hospital and a suspected custody

CBS News told Miami that sources said at least six people were admitted to the hospital. Sources have confirmed to CBS News Miami that a suspected custody is in custody after being shot in a bullet with the police.

The Florida law enforcement department, FBI and other agencies responded to the incident. Class and events on campus were canceled for the rest of the week.

As the community is waiting for answers, emotions remain raw from the closest people in the crisis.

“I had a lot of drill,” said Akhdo. “But how big the school is … I was really scared it was something serious.”
