Mumbai, India – India’s largest domestic cricket tournament was postponed for a week after a growing military tension with Pakistan.
The Indian Premier League, which attracts top players around the world, was immediately stopped, the Cricket Board of Cricket in India said.
The BCCI said in a statement, “The tournament’s new schedule and more updates related to spaces will be announced after widespread evaluation about the situation at the consultation with the relevant authorities and stakeholders.”
The decision came after one night after the exchanging artillery exchanges between Indian and Pakistani troops across the Kashmir border in the growing military standoff after the attack on tourists in the controversial region.
IPL is the world’s most popular cricket tournament and from March to May. This year it is featured in 65 international cricketers from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, England and Afghanistan.
In the 10-party competition, you still have to play 12 games in the group stage before the knockout round. The final was scheduled in Kolkata on May 25.
The BCCI said the decision to postpone the tournament was “in the joint interest of all stakeholders”.
The BCCI statement said, “Although cricket remains a national emotion, there is nothing greater than the nation and its sovereignty, integrity and the protection of our country.”
The suspension was abandoned after the match between the Punjab Kings and the Delhi capitals on Thursday evening while electricity was released during the government’s mandatory blackout on Thursday evening. The next game of Punjab against the Mumbai Indians was already shifted from the Dharmala to Mumbai because of the closure of several airports in the Indian North -West Corridor.
Pakistan had earlier said that it was taking its own domestic Twenty20 tournament to the United Arab Emirates because of the excitement. The PCB confirmed the transfer of Pakistan’s Super League to Dubai in a statement published in the morning, citing increasing concerns among foreign players and prioritizing their protection.
Authorities said on Thursday that an Indian drone fell inside the Complex of the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium a few hours before the start of the PSL game, which was due to a number of foreign cricketers in New Zealand, Australia, West Indies, South Africa and England.
