Indiana tackles obesity epidemic with executive orders changing SNAP eligibility

Indiana Governor Mike Brown, R-Ind., Became the last leader of the health policy. Tuesday, Brown signed a package of nine executive orders to “Heal India again”.

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Medicare and Medicade Services Center (CMS) Administrator. Mehmet Oz attended Brown at a event on Tuesday where all three spoke about the importance of healthy eating.

At his order, Brown changed the supplement to the Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), called for a study on the impact of artificial food dyeing and outlined a chronic disease plan focused on diets of Indiana residents.

One of the major changes in SNAP is needed beneficiaries who are not currently working for employment. In addition, Candy and Soft Drinks will not be eligible for purchase with SNAP facilities in India. During Tuesday’s event, Brown said that more snap dollars were going to sweeter than fruits and vegetables.

In a statement, Kennedy praised Brown’s “brave and visionary leadership” and urged the governors to sign similar executive orders to make their own states healthy. Oz also praised the work of the Indiana Governor, saying, “We can set our young generation for a lifetime success by prioritizing the preferences of resistance, proper nutrition and healthy living.”
