Mexico City – Mexico and the United States on Monday said they reached an agreement in which Mexico immediately sent more water to Texas farmers from their shared Rio Grand to Texas farmers, US President Donald Trump threatened tariffs and sanctions earlier this month.
“Mexico has promised to transfer immediate water from the international reservoir to the international reservoir, and six of Mexico’s six Rio Grand tributaries to the United States,” said US State Department spokesman.
Bruce thanked Mexico President Claudia Shainboum for being involved in the facility of inter -bound cooperation.
The joint statements of the countries on Monday, although there is no specific details of the agreement, said that both countries agreed that the regulatory agreement on how the water was divided was still beneficial and not needed for the two countries.
Under the agreement, Mexico must supply 1,750,000 acres of water or an average of 350,000 per year to an average of 1,750,000 acres of water to the United States from six tribes every five years. Acre foot is 1 acre of land at 1 foot depth of water to cover the amount of water.
However, with the completion of the current cycle in Mexico in October, the deadline is at high risk not to fulfill that time.
The deal allows Mexico to run the water debt in the first four years of each cycle, if it can make fifth place.
