Military marchers set out from Hopkinton to start the 129th Boston Marathon

Hopkinton, Mass. – On Monday morning, a group of members of the Massachusetts National Guard crossed the Boston Marathon Start Line and launched the 129th edition of the world’s oldest and most prestigious annual marathon.

Race Director Dave McGillivre sent a uniform team of about 5 people at 6am. McGillivrey later said it was extra special this year from the 250th anniversary of Patriots Day on Monday. The competition is held every year on state holidays that start the revolutionary war.

“We appreciate their service, and only this is that it gives it more meaning to Patriotism Day,” he said.

Lieutenant John Lee, one of the military marchrs, said that all the history is “the foremost on the special day like today.”

“I just wanted to be a part of it,” he said.

The city of Hopkinton, about 26.2 miles (12.5 km) west of Boston, is a rally for about 1.5 runners, preparing for trek in Copali Square. Race organizers are also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first wheelchair race. Bob Hall requested to go to the 1975 Boston Marathon, promised to finish the course in 3 hours or less. He did it, and since then the wheelchair marathon has become a highly competitive event – not just in Boston, but around the world.

The forecasts were partially called the sky, the light air and the temperature most of the 50s to the lower -60s in the afternoon for those who laid behind the bay. McGillivre will jump with the second wave of athletes to start a competition with his son, it created its 53rd Boston Marathon.

Lema separated from the pack of elite men earlier last year and ran alone in the morning, ending the tenth fastest time in the nation’s history. Most of the top 2021 top men’s finishers are returning, Kenya’s Evans Chebette, the two -time Boston Marathon Champion, who was third last year.

Obiri has been trying to be the first woman to win three from the beginning. Last year, Obiri broke late from a large pack and became the first woman to repeat as the Boston Marathon champion for 25 years.

Top American candidates include Emma Bates. Former Boston resident of Boston is ranked fifth in the ranks of women in 2021 and 12th last year, both made him the highest American finisher.

According to the Boston Athletic Association this year the female field will be the fastest, 14 athletes whose personal best marathon bar is 2 hours, under 26 minutes.
