Washington Nationals Pitcher George Lapez has been suspended three games and Pittsburg’s Andrew McCcoten has been fined for throwing a fine, Major League Baseball announced Thursday.
Lapez was expelled from the game against the pirates on Wednesday night after the benches were briefly cleared in a seventh innings near McCuitain’s head.
The lapez hit the previous batter Brian Renolds, with a pitch before facing McCucketen, who had to fall to the ground to avoid pushing the ball 92 miles to the head.
The right -hander has filed an application for the suspension, which will begin on Thursday but will not be effective until the process is done.
National Manager Dave Martinez received a fine and one-game suspension because of the incident.
During Wednesday’s game, when the umpires gathered to discuss, McCcochen and lapez began to argue, causing both benches to be empty. Pirates outfielder Tommy Fam has also been shouted screaming while behind teammate Wanil Cruise.
Washington (-11-5) finished his four-game series on Thursday afternoon in Pittsburg (-12-12).
