Sanderson scores in OT as Senators beat Maple Leafs 4-3 to avoid sweep

Ottawa, Ontario – Defenseman Jack Sanderson scored a long wrist shot from left boards on Overtime 17:42 and forced Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 on Saturday night to force the fifth game in the first round series.

Sanderson pushed on the Blue Line and threw the wrist shot on the right corner of the traffic and past goalkeeper Antony Stollaz.

“Crazy environment,” Sanderson said. “It’s pretty great.”

Game 5 Tuesday night in Toronto.

The teams needed extra time to play the third direct play, although finally breaking, even though Toronto lost 3-2 overtime in Games 2 and 3, Toronto lost its first sweep chance after defeating Ottawa in the first round of 2001.

“Our special teams may be a little better,” said Nice. “Overtime, it’s about to be a bounce or dirty target it it has gone on their way.”

Ottawa 2017 won a play -off game for the first time after the Eastern Conference Final. Only four NHL teams have returned from the 3-0 deficit for the Maple Leafs of the 12th, New York Islands of 1971, Philadelphia Flyers and 20 Los Angeles Kings.
