Turkey and Italy strengthen ties with trade and defense agreements

Rome – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni on Tuesday observed a formal exchange of a dozen cooperation agreements, including defense, as part of an attempt to strengthen relations between the two Mediterranean countries.

Erdogan was in Rome to participate in the fourth so -called Inter -Additional Summit between Italy and Turkey, which aims to increase trade and cooperation.

His visit came at a time when Türkiye and Italy expanded the defense partnership. In March, Turkey’s leading drone manufacturer, Biicar, inhuman airline vehicles reached a memorandum of agreement for a joint venture with Leonardo, Italy. Last year, Bayakar bought the Italian aircraft producer Piagjio Aerospace.

Talking after their meeting, Meloni and Erdogan said Turkey and Italy successfully reached their $ 1 billion trade volume target and now set a new $ 1 billion target, which has indicated more economic cooperation.

“We will continue to strengthen our cooperation with Italy, which has made significant progress with new partnerships and projects in the defense industry,” Erdogan said.

Italy is looking at Turkey as the main partner to manage the number of immigration and maintain stability in the region.

On Tuesday, Meloni thanked Erdogan and said that the number of immigrants generated from Türkiye was “zero” due to joint action by Türkiye and Italy.

Erdogan said: “We will continue our cooperation with Italy in the fight against irregular immigration in the coming days.”

The Turkish leader also said that the parties have discussed possible cooperation in Syria’s renewal and will take further advice on the matter.
