Shiva Sibus is returning to more Olympic figure skating medals.
Alex and Mia Shibutani’s popular siblings Ice Dance team announced Thursday that they would return to the competition this season, hoping to create a load American squad for the next year’s Milan-Cortina Games.
34 -year -old Alex and 30 -year -old Mia have skated most of their lives together and have been US ice choreographer for a long time. They were a three-time world medalist and the Bi-Bar Olympian, the Ninth and the Ninth in the 26 Sochi Games and the 25-Pay Pyongchang Games, where they were also part of the American squad, which won a team bronze medal.
Shibutanis was withdrawn from the competition after that Olympics and chose to focus on school and other interests. They wrote four children’s books and worked as choreographers and ambassadors for diversity and representation.
When they were caught in a malignant tumor in their kidney in 2019, they increased their break. He underwent surgery to remove mass and causes additional treatment to long, painful recovery.
“This has been challenged and inspired by us in the past seven years that we never expect,” said Mia Shivutani. “I am very happy to be healthy and grateful and I’m in a position to decide to come back in a game that I like this way.”
Shivutanis continued to skate the exhibition for years, and they remain close to the Olympic movement. Last summer, Alex Shibutani worked as a photographer and Mia Shibutani worked at the Paris Olympics, where US figure skater was finally awarded their team’s gold medal from the 2022 Beijing Games.
Now, the Shubutanis are hoping that the next American squad is on its way to the Olympics.
They will be trained with long -time coach Marina Joaova and Massimo Scali, who recently helped Alicea Liu to return to her own short retirement to win the first female World title for the United States Figure Skater in nearly two decades.
Creating a team for Milano-Cortina Games will not be easy for Shivutanis. Madison Chowk and Ivan Bates won the third Ice Dance World title in their drawn and would be forbidden to stand at the top of the Olympic Podium, and Christina Carira and Antony were the fifth in Ponomaranco World and Caroline Green and Michael Persons ninth.
The United States has qualified for a maximum of three Ice dance teams for winter games, which means that someone will be dropped.
“The Olympic Medal and the US Figure Skating Hall of Fames, Maya and Alex are incredibly exciting to return to competition next season,” says Justin Dillon, senior director of athlete high performance in the US Figure Skating.
“They are strong ambassadors in favor of sports both outside and outside.
