Members of the South Texas community who worked as the Hub of the Rocket Launch Agency of Elon Mask, Mr. Kastur, on Saturday, voted on Saturday to establish a new city called Starbase.
According to the Cameron County, conducted by the vote, out of the 977 votes, 337 votes were closed.
County Election Administrator Remy Garza says there are 283 qualified voters. Mr. Garza said that about 5 votes were left to count, but the number of initial votes was “good past” which the majority requirements needed approval.
To the locals, this community, known as Boca Chika, covers about 1.5 square miles on a spit land that brushes against the Mexican border.
SpaceX broke the foundation in the region in the 21st and has since become the company’s central hub and launch site, as well as in the house of hundreds of employees.
His social media platform, X, Mr Mask have referred to the region more than a dozen times in the last four years as Starbase.
“My primary house is literally stupid chika / a ~ 50 dollar house in Starbase that I hired from SpaceX,” Mr. Mask wrote on June 2021. “Though it is great.”
In December, people living around the company’s office and the launch site made an application to formally establish the city of Starbes in Texas.
This application describes a community of about 500 residents, including at least 219 primary resident and more than 100 children. According to the petition, almost everyone works in tenants and SpaceX.
The municipality will be eligible to accept its own police and fire departments as well as accept its own ordinances, though no need to do it.
“Cities are needed to do very little by the law,” said Alan Bozrozz, a lawyer for Austin, to assist Texans through the process of incorporating a new municipality.
Road maintenance is one of the most important practical problems and it will no longer be guided by the county. However, as a municipality, Starbase will be eligible for the state and federal grant, there may be some immunity from the case and condemn the property, Mr. Bozorkez says.
